"I am completing a project for North East Lincs Care Trust Plus that I think might be of interest to you. I have helped create, and continue to facilitate, a group of community members who are very interested in the quality of care offered by the Care Trust Plus (CTP).
They are called Community Voice and were formed about a year ago; there are about 20 core members and probably 50-60 who attend occasionally. They act as a mini-healthwatch in a way; they are focused on adult safeguarding issues and the quality of care, but they also seek to celebrate the good things that happen where they see them.
The CTP support them by paying for my time and paying attention to what they say (they report to the Safeguarding Adults Board) but, beyond that, they are arms length and can be as critical of CTP services as they wish.
With very little help from me, they have organised an event on social isolation, bringing together statutory services, third sector and the private sector in a well-publicised coming-together in Grimsby Market, trying to raise awareness of isolation and its consequences, and providing a place where people can find help. They have requested meetings with service managers, police and rescue services, they have just met with a Magistrate and will soon speak with the Crown Prosecution Service; in each case finding out more about their attitudes to safeguarding adults and investigating what they are doing to reduce the problems.
My questions are...
- Do you have local chapters or groups that we could affiliate with?
- Do you know of any other local groups (other than LINks and HealthWatch) that provide this oversight of services from a safeguarding perspective?
The group would love to share experiences with people doing similar things.
Any help or advice you can offer would be welcome".
